1st annual naples noms battle of the key lime pies

the 1st annual naples noms battle of the key lime pies! In anticipation of national key lime pie day on september 26, we asked you what your favorite key lime pies in town were. we are so grateful for your nominations and for the restaurants and bakeries who agreed to provide a slice of pie for judging. We hope to turn this into an annual event! we came into this fully expecting to pick a winner, but after careful deliberation (and a lot of taste testing), we found each to be a winner even amongst the rest of the tough competition. Now, onto the important stuff (in no particular order). so now’s your chance to go out and try a slice for yourself and tell us which is your favorite!

  • Continental Naples

Continental Naples’ heavily-recommended Blackberry Key Lime Pie: Purists don’t fret. Although you’ve probably never come across blackberries with your key lime, it’s a very welcome addition to the pie, with a generous layer of merengue. And the graham cracker crust really blew us all away.

  • Yabba Island Grill

Yabba Island Grill: Famous for their homemade 3-layered, 6-inch high key lime pie, with different intensities of key lime in each mousse! We were thrilled to have this pie included and although it’s beauty didn’t make it to the Naples Noms photo booth, the flavor is definitely worth going to 5th Ave for.

  • Swan River Seafood

Swan River Seafood (serving Kenny’s Great Pies): For those of you who enjoy a sweet key lime pie with just a tad of tartness, this is for you. A noticeably thick and crumbly (and delicious) graham cracker crust complemented this denser custard-filling.

  • Ocean Prime

Ocean Prime Naples: Our followers made sure Chef Vlad’s Key Lime Pie joined the battle and we are sure glad he did. It’s flan-like texture made it the most unique of the bunch, making us wonder what goes on in the kitchen in this 5th Ave staple. Not pictured were the delicious whipped cream and berry sauce that we did include in the taste testing. oes here

  • Sweet Melissa's

Sweet Melissa’s Ice Cream: A favorite for many of our followers! Topped with beautifully piped and tasty merengue, this one wowed us with with its soft texture and perfectly balanced tartness. A favorite of the bunch and easily worth the drive to Bonita Springs!

  • Turtle Club

Turtle Club Naples: (serving award-winning Mike’s Pies from Tampa): a straightforward key lime flavor with a soft crust. Our most “classic”-looking pie of the group with its light yellow hue. And with your toes in the sand at the Turtle Club, this pie will most definitely hit the spot.

  • Angelic Desserts

Angelic Desserts: For those of you whole love a mouth-puckering pie, this one is for you. Completely made from scratch in-house, this tart key lime pie definitely stood out from the group and turned out to be a real favorite for us. It’s presented as a cute mini pie for you to share with someone else (or just be honest, you’ll finish it yourself).
